SCARSSouthern California Antique Radio Society

Auction Rules

  1. Previewing and attending the auction does not require club membership.
  2. Buyers & sellers must be SCARS members. Membership will be available at the door.
  3. Bidder cards are $5 and are non-refundable. The catered lunch is provided for bid card holders only.
  4. All items submitted for the auction must be radio oriented or related. Examples: novelty sets, tubes, books, test gear, hi-fi equipment, phonographs, etc.
  5. Minimum lot value should be estimated at $20. Smaller items may be grouped together to achieve this value; i.e., a box of magazines.
  6. Each seller may submit a maximum of 10 items. Submitting more items requires advance written approval from a SCARS auction official. Box lots containing small articles are counted as 1 item. Combining larger items in a single lot is prohibited unless the items are directly related; i.e., a speaker that goes with a specific radio, etc.
  7. Sellers may not place items in the preview area without prior approval by a SCARS auction official. Officials reserve the right to reject any item or lot and may limit the total number of submitted items due to available time.
  8. Once placed in the preview area, all sale items are committed to the auction and cannot be removed and/or pre-sold. Buying & selling on venue grounds or parking areas prior to the auction is not permitted.
  9. After the auction begins, auction items shall be handled by designated handlers only.
  10. All items are sold "as is." SCARS will receive 15% of the final bid price.
  11. "Buy back" rules allow a seller to bid and buy back their own items. If they win, the buy back penalty is 10%, or $50 max. For example, a $500 buy back would cost $50. This removes the risk of a valuable item being sold below the seller's acceptable price.
  12. SCARS will accept a personal check from qualified members with identification, and/or approval of a SCARS official. All other purchases must be in cash. Buyers and sellers will be responsible for any applicable sales tax.
  13. Sellers will receive a check by mail - typically within 7-10 days - for all items sold. Sellers will be paid by mail only. Cash payments will not be provided. Buyers cannot check out until the end of the auction (generally 3-4 pm). Lining up at the checkout table before the last item has been sold is discouraged.
  14. Buyers must pick up all their purchases after the auction ends. Unclaimed items will not qualify for refunds or adjustments.
  15. By submitting items for auction, sellers agree to remove any unsold items from the premises by the end of the event.
